Is it possible that the best Marvel movie to date wasn’t made by Marvel studios? Deadpool is a refreshing new take on the super hero craze that we desperately needed. He is not the hero you want, not one you would like in real life, but he is the ass hole we all needed.
When Wade Wilson is diagnosed with cancer he seeks help from a special program promising not only to heal his deadly disease but also to give him super powers. Instead of treating, they torture him until his body mutates giving him a horrible appearance but a healing ability that makes him damn near immortal. Vowing to get revenge on the organization that did this to him, he adopts the name Deadpool and goes on a killing spree.
This movie is a hard R and that is what makes this movie stand out. In the era of sequels, prequels, and team up movies, Deadpool never tries to outshoot its target. The movie is funny, true to the comic books, and the most of all fun. The violence is extreme, the dialog crass and the tone hilarious. Ryan Reynolds was born to play this role and between breaking the 4th wall, and Deadpool’s constant pop culture references, he will make you fall in love.
If you are not a fan of Deadpool already, get on board because the train has entered the station and you don’t want to get left behind. This will be a hit franchise, my only advice is…. leave your mom at home.
My final score: 5/5 chimichangas
