The Intern is a fairly small movie that has a well-contained story that ends with a nice bow to tie up the plot lines. It stars Robert De Niro (I know I couldn’t believe it either!) and Ann Hathaway (that I can believe). De Niro plays a retired businessman who is struggling keeping busy in retirement and decides to look for a job. Hathaway plays a young start up whose business has taken off overnight and she now finds herself running a successful Internet shopping company.
Now this movie hits all of the same beats that you would expect and most of the jokes center around De Niro being an old man working at a trendy start up company and not understanding the technology. There isn’t much to this story as it is pretty paint by numbers. De Niro’s character, Ben, is nearly perfect and very two-dimensional while Jules Ostin (Hathaway) is having issues because she is so focused on work at the detriment of her family. This movie is vanilla and was good for a chuckle here and there but if you are itching to see a Robert De Niro film I would suggest searching elsewhere.
To steal from Jeremy Jahns “you wont remember this movie in T-minus 1 minute” but it also wont make you mad if your girlfriend makes you watch it during your marathon of Anne Hathaway movies.
My Ranking: Catch it on Cabl
