The Man from U.N.C.L.E

The Man From UNCLE is a spy film set in the 60’s where tensions are high between the United States and Russia. There is a threat that aligns these bitter enemies and the top spies from their two respective countries need to team up and save the day.

The first word that comes to mind is charming. This movie is funny at times, stylistically it fits the 60’s very well, and all of the actors play their parts well. Henry Cavil plays the American and Armie Hammer plays his Russian rival who are trying to use Alicia Vikander’s character Gabby to carry out the mission. They have some cool action sequences and a lot of witty banter but the movie never really gets as suspenseful as they are trying to convey. The Man From UNCLE is very safe and doesn’t push any boundaries or do anything new in the genre; which is ok!

Overall this movie was enjoyable and stylistically fun to watch. Everything was done well but it didn’t blow me away with anything I hadn’t seen before. The good thing about this movie is anyone who has doubts about Henry Cavil can safely put them to rest as he delivers a great performance to this role.

My Rating: Wait on it; this is a movie you should see if you enjoy the genre but no rush!
