The movie that made it cool to be in show choir in college now has a sequel, and acapella nerds around the world rejoiced.
The Barden Bellas are back and bigger then ever! We catch up with the crew after three consecutive national championships and by all accounts the Bellas are at the top of their game. A more risqué performance in front of distinguished guests leave them embarrassed and suspended from national competition. Because the Bellas can’t compete in the US they start to gear up for the Worlds!
To be honest this movie follows a lot of the same beats as the first film. They are once again a group of misfits, who need to come together to win a singing competition. They even have some a scene where they battle other acapella groups in sing off, just like the first movie. They are older and some things have progressed but for the most part Fat Amy fart jokes still reign supreme. That being said Anna Kendrick was again the most interesting part of the film and her characters storyline is the strongest.
The biggest criticism I have for this movie is that with a group of such great characters they decided to do they same movie over again. I think that if you loved Pitch Perfect you will also love this movie but overall it wasn’t different enough or funny enough to make me really enjoy it.
Overall I think this is a fine sequel to an original movie I really enjoyed, but it didn’t live up to the hype and there was nothing new that would make Pitch Perfect 2 a great movie.
My Score: Wait on it
