Spy

Spy is going to be the film that gets Mellissa McCarthy back in stride, proving that pratfalls and fat jokes are always funny.

Spy focuses on Susan Cooper, a behind the scenes member of the CIA who acts as the eyes and ears of Bradley Fine (Jude Law), a 007 type spy when out on his missions. When the identities of all the CIA agents are compromised they need to send in an unknown face. Susan gets pushed into the spy world to catch the bad guys who stole the list and save the CIA.

Comedies live and die based on their writing and acting, this movie delivered on both and it created a very enjoyable story. All of the actors have great chemistry, which made the jokes hit harder. In my honest opinion, the funniest person in this film was Jason Statham. I thought he was brilliant and his character was one of the highlights of this film. He basically plays the same role he does in other action films but his dialog is very self-aware and does a good job of making fun of himself and they type of movies that made him so popular.

Like most comedies now a days, the trailers did give away too much of the plot, but there is still enough here to make this film worth a watch. The plot is also predictable but it is a comedy so I am quick to forgive those sins as long as the story is all around enjoyable. This is total redemption from the past few bombs that McCarthy has put out as of late, she was funny and on top of her game.

My Ranking: See it in Theaters!
