A Star is Born
Oscar season is truly upon us! Gone are the days of CGI bull shit and dumb comedies. October is when the movie industry gears up for the Oscars and delivers the movies that will leave a mark on you when you leave the theater. A Star is Born is all that and more, I was haunted walking out of this movie and have been listening to the songs on repeat. Is it the manliest thing to admit, No, but I owe you the truth. A Star is Born is not just great, it is AMAZING, and a must watch this season.
A Star is Born is a loose remake of the 1976 film by the same name and follows a Country Star Jackson and the love of his life Ally. It stars with Jackson, already a big star, finding Gaga’s character Ally singing in a local bar. From the first notes Jackson falls for Ally and brings her on the road with him. As Jackson exposes Ally to the world her star continues to rise as a series off bad decisions causes a decline in Jackson’s career. The film then follows the pair falling in love, dealing with careers heading in different directions, and hardship. Bradley Cooper chooses to show a realistic look at relationships and you see the highest and lowest points in their marriage and their lives.
Bradley Cooper; produced, directed and stars in this movie which is truly impressive. His chemistry with Lady Gaga is intense and believable and together they create movie magic. The songs are incredible, and will not doubt be hitting everyone’s playlist after seeing this film, who knew Bradley Cooper could sing? This movie will give you all the feels and will leave you so twisted at the end that you walk around with the weight of it all day. My friends and I went to a brewery after words and although there were many attempts to steer the conversation away we always ended up back talking about this movie.
To be fair I do have some small negatives I feel I should point out. There are multiple plot lines that don’t really go anywhere. Things like Jackson’s failing career, his citizen of her “selling out” to be a pop star, and the plot line between Jackson and his brother all kind of just trail off in the end. This movie also felt long, by the end I was wondering how they could possibly wrap up all these story threads so quickly. Cooper ends up making it work but leaves a lot of things unfinished.
That being said, the core of this movie is gold, and both actors give performances that will first make you fall in love and then rip your heart out. A Star is Born is a must see from me and is my favorite for a bunch of recognition at the Oscars.
