This movie hits its mark in every way. American Sniper gives an ultra realistic depiction of a navy seals journey from training through retirement and the struggle to acclimate back to a “normal” life. Having a movie so aptly and realistically show the whole career of Chris Kyle draws you in from minute one. Bradley Cooper plays Kyle in a role that is haunting and inspiring. Cooper’s portrayal is Oscar worthy and left me shocked by the end of the movie.
At points this movie, directed beautifully by Clint Eastwood, could have made a choice to “Disney” this story up. Turn it into an overly patriotic recruitment commercial but never does it turn cheesy or fake. Luckily for us Eastwood delivers a real honest look at these amazing events that made my stomach turn.
I have never seen a movie take the bold choice of showing Cooper’s character move from Tour and back and back to tour over and over again. But this gives you such a sense of the Kyle’s growth and progress by juxtaposing his life as a Navy Seal “Legend” and trying to come back and be a father and a husband.
The action is amazing, the acting realistic, and the story incredible. This is one of my favorite war movies I have ever seen and it deserves whatever awards are sure to follow.
